 Hadleigh Castle
  

The remains of a 13th century castle standing on high ground over the Essex marshes. Hadleigh was begun in 1215 by Hubert de Burgh. It was later expanded and strengthened by Edward III into a comfortable (for the time) royal residence.

 Hedingham Castle
  

This 1140 Norman keep is the only remaining part of the medieval castle and Tudor buildings, stronghold of the de Vere family for 550 years. Banqueting Hall with Minstrels' Gallery. The grounds afford peaceful woodland and lakeside walks.

 Helmsley Castle
We had the pleasure of visiting here, and our information is based on our personal experiences  

Helmsley Castle A large and imposing 12th century castle overlooking the market town of Helmsley, on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park. Helmsley Castle was built in 1120 by Walter Espec, who was also responsible for the founding of nearby Rievaulx Abbey and Kirkham Priory.

Red brick moated castle of 1440's, built by Ralph Fiennes, whose family crest is displayed over the entrance. Now home to the International Study Centre of Queen's University (Canada), so the interior cannot be viewed.

 Hurst Castle
  

One of Henry VIII's coastal forts, completed in 1544. Hurst Castle occupies a position on a spit of land, projecting into the western end of the Solent. The castle consists of a circular keep with projecting towers, with a large enclosure to landward. Charles I was briefly imprisoned here before his final journey to LOndon and death. Henry VIII's design was updated during the Napoleonic Wars, and the castle was used during WWII.

 Hylton Castle
  

Hylton Castle Hylton Castle was a medieval fortified manor house. The only remainder of the castle is the grandiose gatehouse tower, which originally stood at the west gateway of the house. The gatehouse was constructed around 1400 AD by Sir William Hylton, and acted as the main residence for the Hylton familiy through the 16th century.

 Kendal Castle
  

Kendal Castle The ruins of an early 13th century castle overlooking the River Kent. Two towers and stretches of the curtain wall remain of this, the family home of the Parr's for four centuries. The most famous of the Parr family was Katherine Parr, sixth and final queen to Henry VIII. Footpaths lead through fields and woods below the hill, making for enjoyable walks. One mile away is Castle Howe, an earthwork Norman motte and bailey fortification.

Kenilworth Castle Begun by Geoffrey de Clinton about 1120, site of Edward II's abdication and John of Gaunt's Banqueting Hall. One of the great castles of England throughout the Middle Ages.

 Kimbolton Castle
  

Kimbolton Castle, constructed after the Norman conquest and greatly remodelled in the 17th century, is best known for its associations with Katherine of Aragon. Now a school, the castle is available for group visits, and has a limited number of public opening dates.

 Kirby Muxloe Castle
  

The beautiful remains of a moated 15th century mansion, left unfinished when its owner was executed for treason. The owner was William, Lord Hastings, who began work on Kirby Muxloe Castle in 1480, creating a fortified house of red brick surrounded by a wide moat.
