Ashford in the Water, Derbyshire, England
Late Victorian formal gardens and parkland surround the 19th-century mansion of Thornbridge Hall. The gardens were designed for a Sheffield lawyer named George Marples, who wanted to create '1000 shades of green'. The result is a superb example of a late 19th-century garden, with neoclassical sculpture and Italianate terraces.
