Great Dixter Gardens

Travel Information and nearby accommodation

Great Dixter Gardens A series of wonderful gardens arranged around an historic 15th century house. Within the gardens are a sunken garden, wonderful topiary, a famous long border, rose gardens, and a flower/vegetable garden, all with wild flowers sprinkled thoughout. The gardens at Great Dixter were the work of one man; Christopher Lloyd, who spent his life developing a garden of varied interest that draws visitors from across the globe. Best in: spring.

Great Dixter House
This lovely 15th century manor features one of the largest timber-framed mediieval halls in England. The main house was built around 1450, and this was extended to create a hall house in about 1500. However, Great Dixter house was not originally built at Great Dixter! The house was actually built at Benenden, Kent, and then disassembled and re-erected here at the current site in Northiam village. The house was extended and restored by Sir Edward Lutyens in 1910.

Within the house are a collection of historic furniture from the 17th and 18th centuries. The combination of the glorious gardens and the historic manor make Great Dixter an unmissable treat. more details ...
