Elizabethan manor built by William Cecil, 1st Lord Burghley, to his own design. Four story gatehouse leads to inner courtyard. Garden gates by Jean Tijou, later tapestries and furniture.
Garden: 300-acre 'Capability' Brown deerpark divided by avenues of mature trees, and set off by a lake. The specimen trees and shrubs of the Sculpture garden create the perfect setting for contemporary sculptures.
