Travel Information and nearby accommodation
The largest city in the south west, Bristol has a rich maritime history. The SS Great Britain, the first ship to use an iron hull and screw propeller, is now a major visitor attraction. Beside it is the Matthew, the sailing ship used by John Cabot on his voyage from Bristol in 1497. Visit Bristol Zoo, one of the finest zoos in Britain if not Europe. The Georgian Town House Museum is an elegant town residence dating to the late 18th century. Nearby is Bristol Cathedral, which dates to the 12th cenmtry and is a superb example of a Gothic hall church, a type rarely seen in Britain.
