Tiny 17th century house where Beatrix Potter wrote many of her children's stories. It has been preserved exactly as it was when the author left it, right down to her china. A large number of personal effects and mementoes are to be found throughout the house. Many parts of the house were used by Potter for scenes in her books, and copies of her drawings in various rooms show how she incorporated pieces of furniture from the house into her scenes.


Hilltop is enormously popular, especially following the success of the film, Miss Potter, so visitors are advised to take this into account when planning a visit. If the day is fine, it is best to arrive early. more details ...
