Merchant Adventurers' Hall - Chapel
The Chapel occupies a corner of the spacious Undercroft. This is
reconstruction of the original Chapel, built in 1411. Many of the
original building stones were used to create the current Chapel.
The simple Chapel we see now bears but little likeness to the Chapel
that existed in the Middle ages. At that time there were three altars,
and a plenitude of statuary and other rich decoration. These were
removed following the English Reformation. The pews and pulpit date
from the reign of Charles II,

this fascinating set of marks on the archway frame. The marks
show the height reached by floodwaters over the years. |
