Merchant Adventurers' Hall - Exterior
The exterior of the Merchant Adventurers' Hall is quite striking,
showcasing an excellent example of medieval half-timbering. The area
around the hall was for many years almost submerged beneath a clutter
of timber buildings. These were cleared around 1900, and since WWI
it has been used as a Garden of Rest for the people of York.
The lower section of the building contains some of the earliest brickwork
in the city; possibly the first example of the use of bricks for major
building projects in York since the departure of the Romans.
