Okel Tor is acknowledged by English Heritage to be one of the best surviving 19th century tin mines nationally It is both an Ancient Monument and World Heritage Site.
The Count House is the former mine captain's office and the Smithy was the workshop of the mine where miners' picks were sharpened. The cottages are about 15 metres apart and screened from each other with vegetation, both are Grade II Listed and situated in an elevated position within approximately 16 acres of natural woodland and lowland heath on the banks of the River Tamar with beautiful views of Devon.
There are a number of interesting ruins and an abundance of flora and fauna. The village of Calstock is a short walk away and has village shop open from 8am to 8pm and pub which serves food. The National Trusts enchanting Cotehele House is also within walking distance and the Tamar Valley Discovery Trail actually passes through Okel Tor.
Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor and the sandy beaches at Whitsand Bay on the south coast are just a short drive away. Please note - there is a £20 charge for pets per week or part of. The Count House offers electric heating and a log burning stove, 1 double bedroom, and 1 shower room, open-plan living room with sofa-bed, kitchen and dining areas.
There is a south facing timber deck enjoying elevated views across the river.
