This Victorian building is situated close to the centre of the Yorkshire Dales market town of Skipton and can sleep ten people in five bedrooms.

Skipton House is a stone built Victorian building situated just a short walk from the centre of the market town of Skipton in the Yorkshire Dales. Boasting five bedrooms and two family bathrooms, this cottage can sleep up to ten people. Also contained within the cottage is a fitted kitchen, a dining room and a sitting room with a sofa bed and an electric fire. To the outside of the cottage is a front yard with seating, along with off road parking for two cars with roadside parking also available on a first come, first served basis. Ideally located close to the town centre, so that you can leave the car behind, yet just a short drive away from some of the most beautiful countryside in Yorkshire, Skipton House is sure to offer a holiday to remember.


Total disappointment
Only positives for this property were the locality of it being central to the market town, canal and local amenities. The property was old, tired and dated and had a serious damp problem and overall basic cleanliness was lacking. From a review in June 17, I can only reiterate the issues which are still there. The lower ground floor bedroom was uninhabitable due to dampness and musty smells. The kitchen utensils, pots pans etc had to be cleaned before use. Sofas in front room were uncomfortable due to possible broken springs/boards. The stairs had never seen the likes of a hoover hose in corners and we were just so disappointed in the high amount we paid for a weeks holiday to what we had for our money. Slugs found daily in the kitchen and downstairs bathroom. Outside bins had not been emptied and were overflowing. open back yard although listed for parking for two small cars, the tightness of the back lane was a no no for our Picasso and slope up to the yard did the car no favours so gave up in the end. Unless the issues are addressed we would not recommend this property to anyone. Sadly overall comment from Gran was "it was a bit of a dump". Whether our high standards but we expected more for our money than what we got having stayed in other properties for similar prices, this failed in comparision.

Very disappointing
Property far from clean, which seems a basic expectation. Carpets need a deep clean. Furniture and surfaces not clean. Basement bedroom could not be used as too damp and unwelcoming (grey concrete steps leading to it). This meant dragging a double mattress up two flights of stairs and cramming it into a single bedroom to find enough sleeping areas. Sheets of glass with sharp edges on top of some pieces of furniture. Property just didn't seem suitable for a holiday let. Two showers, but no bath. Only one of showers ran hot. Felt we needed to complain to Sykes Cottages. Despite assurances to the contrary they immediately reported this to the owner and created a confrontational situation. Not conducive to a relaxing holiday. Felt Sykes should take responsibility for the booking. Would hope for some kind of refund, but not holding breath.

A roomy house with plenty of space for nine people. It is within easy walking distance of the town centre.

The location of the property was excellent and the owners were extremely helpful.

We stayed here over Christmas 2014. Chosen via Sykes Website. At Christmas we expect to pay a premium price and at ?1500 had certain expectations which were not met. This property was sold as having a ground floor bedroom, parking for 2 cars off road, well equipped kitchen. These were not the case. There was a sofa bed in the lounge, the parking was a small tight drive with enough space for one car, basic kitchen equipment eg no cafeti?re, mismatched glasses and crockery, no electric gadgets except a 2 slot toaster and kettle. This is what I call basic and adequate. No key for the back door, so if you did park at the back on the drive you had to walk around the whole block to get to the front....whilst not a huge problem...not ideal. The cleanliness of the property was not up to standard. Lipstick on glasses, Crumbs on the table on arrival, oven needed cleaning before use, mould around window frames from condensation, stains on bed linen (though I could smell they were clean and washed) . Low quality towels, sofa, was lumpy as if springs had gone, decor neeced a refresh. It had a bedsit/hostel feel not conducive to a cosy family Christmas. Very much disappointed in comparison to many other properties we've stayed in over Christmas period....one Christmas tree with no lights, some cheap biscuits and wine. At ?1500 for this week I could not see the value added at all. Sykes are offering mediation between us and the owner...I'm disappointed at this as I booked with Sykes not the owner.. If you are a group of outdoor enthusiasts after a base, this is ideal...hot showers, warm heating and a basic quality which won't matter if you dump your wet gear around.., for ?500-600 I would be happy. We were with a family and a disabled person, and we expected much more. Feeling let down I'm afraid.
