Great location. Well equipped.
There is a qualification regarding the state of the property which prevents a 5 star review. But generally positive. The cottage is in a great place, quiet but very close to the town including a great butchers a hundred yards away. Unloading was a bit of a challenge, but don't panic and the road up to the cottage is manoeuvrable. The parking permit was fine for the car park a couple of minutes walk away, though it gets very busy during the day - but this was in busy July and Ambleside was very busy despite the pandemic restrictions. The cottage is well equipped, comfortable bedrooms and good bathrooms. A nice selection of games and videos. Negatives? It was clear that the regular cleaning had been done adequately, although some of the kitchen implements and glasses had not been washed up properly. Bathrooms were clean. But the place is unloved (maybe because the owner does not stay, but that's just a guess). It could do with a decent spring clean. For example light switches had been wiped, but there was months of dust on top of them. Carpets in less accessible places hadn?t been hoovered for ages, and the insides of the windows had general muck and fly dirt. The garden was tatty - just an hour's tidying up was all it needed. All this is a shame. I recommend getting someone to do a good half day's general clean. Then it would be 5 stars for sure.

Well equipped
Woodbine Cottage is ideally situated in Ambleside, being a very short walk from the town. The access road is very narrow but parking is close by, as is a pub offering a decent meal if guests in the cottage don't wish to cook in the more than adequately equipped kitchen. The downstairs is open plan and provides comfortable seating for a cosy night in. Beds are comfortable and all the accommodation is clean. Having booked through Sykes Cottages, I would not hesitate to recommend this company as all communication was professional, friendly and helpful.

Great cottage in great location
We've just returned from a 4 night break at Woodbine cottage and couldn't fault it in anyway. Five of us stayed in total (4 adults + 1 child) and it was a perfect size for us. The kitchen and living room are a great size as well as being comfortable and well equipped. Everything was clean and tidy, beds comfortable, good decor, high quality fittings in bathrooms and amazing views from master bedroom. Shops are a quick walk away but we were left biscuits, tea, coffee and milk by the owners which was a lovely touch. As well as shops being a few minutes away you also have 2 pubs and a butchers literally a stones throw away - the butchers in particular is great so make sure you do a big fry up at least once with bacon, sausages, black pudding and eggs all from the butchers ( getting hungry now!). There isn't a parking space by the cottage but you have a very narrow road outside the cottage which was fine for loading / unloading the car ( it is narrow with stone walls either side but a ford mondeo with wing mirrors folded in fitted through fine). You also get a parking permit which we picked up from Sykes in Windermere on the way and this works out really well as there is a car park about 50 metres away from the cottage that this enables you to use as well as multiple other car parks across all of the lake districts so if you're travelling about this can save you a small fortune in pay and display charges! Highly recommended and we'd definitely return
