RECENT CUSTOMER REVIEWS
A pleasant cottage but the damp issue raised by former guest still persists. We did check with Sykes after booking and were told the problem had been dealt with. Unfortunately the damp smell is so strong in the twin bedroom that it renders the room unusable. Disappointing and such a shame.
I begin by highlighting the many qualities of this property.....location, space, provisions. It is nicely decorated. It is warm and cosy. The living room is wonderful and hot water plentiful .Many many good points. Scary drive but you get used to it.
Massive problem......it has a damp issue. One bedroom in particular smells awful. We had our 2 year old sleeping in it. Woke her the following morning, horrified by the smell. We moved her into a different bedroom. Had there been more people in our party, this could have been a problem.
I post this review with sadness as the cottage is great, but my conscience would not allow me not to warn future guests. It is a health risk and needs to be sorted out.
The company 'managing' the property acknowledged the smell and gave us a dehumidifier. Temporary fix perhaps.
I would not wish to deter people from staying in the cottage but would suggest you contact SYKES COTTAGES to ensure the issue has been dealt with before booking.
Nice Place to stay
This cottage has everything you need for a great stay in the lake district. The facilities are excellent (the kettle being the exception - this should be replaced immediately). Plenty of space in the property with an excellent lounge upstairs.
We got here early and the cleaners were just finishing the turnaround service. Not impressed by that service at all, we immediately went to the shops in Grange over sands to collect some cleaning fluids, sponges and wipes and set about cleaning everything from the floors to the fridge, dishwasher, surfaces and bathrooms We had to empty the over full vacuum and start again. The floor mop was dry and had not been used in anger for many weeks.. (these are the basics for a cleaning company), no pride in their work !!.
Once cleaned to our standards we could relax for the rest of the week and enjoy the property as it should be.The garden furniture is a let down and could do with some maintenance but we enjoyed the views and very friendly neighbours.
This is a great location for walks, horse racing at Carmel races, fishing the rivers, lake cruises and many historical literary attractions.
Fire and smoke alarms have been removed, these should be replaced.
All in all we have enjoyed our stay here, we would return if the cleaning improves..
The Cottage was very spacious and open which is great when there is a group of people.
A lovely cottage with impressive big gardens and amazing views. It was peaceful and relaxing and close to attractions.
