Nice place, pity about the wifi.
Giving this place only three stars is actually unfair - it depends what you are looking for. It's a very clean and nice-looking place, with games and books and a comfortable bed, and the kitchen is reasonably well-equipped, including some decent sharp knives?but I find myself making the same comments as I have so frequently made about B&Bs. First and most important: please, please, if you don?t have reliable and fairly speedy wifi, please don?t simply say that you have wifi; clarify. For some of us that is a deal-breaker and it is infuriating to arrive at a place that says it has wifi only to discover that at best it is slow and that it frequently drops out altogether. Much of the time I couldn?t even check e-mails or research websites, let alone watch the videos I needed for the presentation I was supposed to be preparing. I had to go home after three days to get my work done, just writing off the cost of the rest of the week's rental. In the blurb the owner says that mobile reception is variable (actually, it?s not bad) but not a word about the wifi. Second, why is there never enough light to read by ? let alone work by? Lots of lamps with feeble bulbs and thick shades ? and overhead lights that might as well not be there. Fortunately I had brought a tiny lamp that plugs into the usb port of my laptop so I had a tiny pool of bright light. My eyes were still pretty unhappy by the time I left. Third?the shower was lukewarm, with no possibility of regulating it (there is no temperature control on the shower itself). The owner came and felt it and said ?oh, is that as warm as it gets?? When I said yes, she said she hadn?t known about that and ?nobody has ever complained before?. She also said that about the wifi, in the same breath as admitting that it was unreliable ? and claiming that she had said so on the website (she hadn?t). How is that supposed to help me? Fortunately the weather was warm for January, but I still didn?t appreciate a chilly shower. The bottle of wine and packet of shortbread was a nice touch ? it?s not their fault that I rarely drink alcohol and need to be gluten-free!
