This luxury grand detached house with a swimming pool, hot tub and tennis court is on the outskirts of Buxton and sleeps twelve people in six bedrooms.
Aeolus is a luxury grand detached house on the outskirts of Buxton. The property sleeps twelve people in six bedrooms which are three king-size doubles, two of which have an en-suite, two twin rooms and an adult bunk room. There are also three bathrooms, a kitchen with a dining area and breakfast bar, a sitting room with a gas fire, a reading room with a gas fire, a snug with a woodburning stove and an orangery. Outside there is ample off road parking and lawned gardens with patios and decked areas. You will also find an indoor heated swimming pool, a tennis court, a hot tub, a sauna, a gym and a children's play area. Aeolus has everything you could ask for!

Disappointing and disgustingly dirty
The only positive comment I can make is the ease of access to the surroundng area and use of an indoor pool. The house was really dirty throughout to the point of being a health risk from cross contamination,. Had to clean everywhere and everything before use and some of our party left early because they were appalled. Worst holiday let ever, do not waste your money. Sykes should be ashamed of their classification of this property.
A wonderful break
Aeolus is a spacious, roomy house, yet for those seeking a cosy corner, there are plenty to be found. It is a great escape and offers plenty for relaxation, from tennis to the hot tub, to quiet corners in the garden, there is something for everyone. I went with some girlfriends and we enjoyed our morning swim each day before walking from the door. We found the facilities perfect for our stay and I would highly recommend staying at this comfortable home. Another point: this feels more like a home, it's not a hotel, it's easy and relaxing. Take your slippers and put your feet up with a cold glass of something. Perfect.

We booked this house through Sykes Cottages for a special birthday week with family and friends. It?s described as a ?truly stunning...grand house?with a wow factor? by the booking agents. It is grand in that it is large enough for a big group to spill out into individual areas and not feel on top of each other. The swimming pool is a fantastic facility and is kept very warm. The tennis court is in good repair and is pleasant to use. The gardens are kept neat and are beautifully landscaped. However, it has some maintenance and cleanliness issues, which will make you go ?Wow?, but not in a good way.
I noticed the poor Trip Advisor reviews after we had booked and as there was also photographic evidence of the dirt I phoned Sykes Cottages to ask them how they could reassure me that the house would be clean. I spoke to an advisor who said the Area Manager was due to make a visit to the property and they would report back to me. They duly phoned to say the Area Manager was pleased with the property and it was clean. Furthermore, it was due a deep clean in the month before our booking; I felt reassured.
On arrival, it was immediately apparent that the property had not had a recent deep clean and was not in a state of cleanliness that was acceptable for a holiday let. The floors had not been thoroughly swept or vacuumed; the lounge carpet was thick with dog hairs; there were leaves on the hard floor surfaces and little piles of accumulated dust in the corners of most rooms.
The kitchen tiles were dirty with food splashes (see photo); the kitchen cupboards were dirty inside and out (see photo). The bathrooms had not been cleaned. I know this not just because of the dirt around the taps and shower cubicle but because previous occupants had left bright blue hair ties in the bathrooms which would have been found if anyone had cleaned them (refer to photo).
The kitchen equipment is tired and old and there is not quite enough of some crockery for twelve people e.g. there are eleven plates. Some of the plates were chipped. The roasting and baking tins were so rusty I could not use them without covering them in foil first (again, see photo). There is no measuring/mixing jug or cheese grater (basic items). We found an old, mouldy coffee filter paper full of coffee in the coffee machine indicating a lack of thoroughness in cleaning. The vacuum cleaner provided is inadequate; it spits out more dirt than it picks up.
The second en-suite bathroom has no ventilation or window so if you use it to shower there is a build-up of steam and the bedroom feels damp. The hot tub outside only seats three people. There is inadequate seating to eat communally outside if you are an adult group.
There was a black mark on the edge of the swimming pool where the cover meets the side. This is a build-up of mould accumulated over a number of weeks and would be easy to clean off if the pool was better maintained. There was also a pile of debris on the floor of the pool which needs vacuuming up.
The sheets on some beds were so old and ?bobbly? that sleeping was uncomfortable and one of my guests left early because they couldn?t sleep on such poor quality linen (photo provided).
In summary this is not a luxury property; it is dirty and not well equipped and I cannot recommend it.
