Yorkshire's east coast resorts of Whitby and Scarborough are also about 1 hour's drive away, and well worth a day trip out.

There are several racecourses within easy reach including Ripon, Catterick, Thirsk and York.

The village itself has an historic past with Snape Castle, situated at the head of the village, once reputed to have been the home of Catherine Parr. There is an inn in the village
