Grasmere Heritage Snapshot
The village of Grasmere is one of only five in Cumbria which still carries out an annual rushbearing ceremony. Local children carry fresh green rushes in the shape of a cross through the village to St Oswald's church. Each child is also given a morsel of Grasmere gingerbread. At Grasmere the ceremony usually takes place in early August. Local History
