The village is rich in history including the Grammar School attended by William Wordsworth, Anne Tyson's 17th Century Cottage and the ever popular Beatrix Potter museum.
The central square boasts an array of quaint coffee houses, tasteful gift shops and small boutiques.
There is also an excellent selection of sports and leisure wear from the main Hawkshead shop ideally situated just opposite the Sun Inn.
