This luxury family hotel in 3 acres of secluded gardens beside the River Nent in the picturesque Eden District of Cumbria has been awarded 2 rosettes for food by the AA. An elegant Georgian Country House Hotel standing on the former site of a 13th century convent on the banks of the River Nent which nestles in the foothills of Alston Moor on the Pennine Way between the Lakes and Newcastle. Situated 2 miles from Alston in Cumbria the location makes it an ideal centre from which to visit the Lake District Hadrian's Wall the North Pennines Durham Cathedral and the Yorkshire Dales.

The bedrooms are individually styled and furnished in keeping with the ambiance of the hotel offering traditional design along with a full range of modern amenities all guests would expect from a hotel of this caliber. Bedrooms are equipped with full en-suite facilities widescreen televisions DVD players and a luxurious range of furnishings. The hotel restaurant provides elegant surroundings in which to enjoy the AA 2 rosette award winning cuisine prepared by resident Master Chef.

Menus are imaginative and varied using mostly local produce. They have been described as being British with continental excursions. The wine list offers over 100 wines and has been short listed for the 'Wine List of the Year' and have previously been awarded North-West Wine List of the Year by Les Routiers.

There is also an intimate cocktail bar along with a library and lounge with log fires. Lovelady Shield specialise in hosting house parties whether for private celebrations such as birthdays anniversaries retirements or for Christmas and New Year celebrations. The Hotel also makes an idyllic spot for small conferences seminars and management meetings.

Unlike so many larger venues the hotel is ideally suited for those wanting a venue for private dining and small intimate meetings. Alston is a small market town with cobbled streets in the Eden District on the borders of Cumbria Northumbria and County Durham. The beautiful countryside has been designated an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' making the hotel an ideal centre from which to visit three of Britain's most popular national Parks - the Lake District Yorkshire Dales and the Northumberland National Park.

Close by is the World Heritage site of Hadrian's Wall and the beautiful cathedral city of Durham. Due to its location the Lovelady Shield offers a perfect stopover point for those traveling to and from Scotland.
