In 1382, Bishop Aoppleby of Carlisle complained that parishioners of Watermillock were attending worship at Watermillock chapel instead of Greystoke, the mother church to Watermillock. As a result of this switching of allegiance, the Watermillock villagers were refusing to pay their share for the upkeep of Greystoke church.
