Wetheral Heritage Snapshot
There was once a thriving Benedictine priory in Wetheral, a daughter house of St Mary's Abbey in York. Today, all that remains of Wetheral Priory is the grand 15th century gatehouse. This two story structure has domestic quarters on either side of the entry arch, which would have served as rooms for guests, or perhaps for higher status priory members.
