The Cascade, built by Joseph Paxton. It descends 200 feet over a series
of 24 steps - and as you can see from this photo, children find it irresistible
on a warm day! Each step is a different size and shape, so that the
sound made by the water as it runs down the cascade is varied. The Cascade
is entirely gravity-fed, as are all the numerous water features in Chatwsorth's
gardens.
