Passage House HotelA Hotel in Kingsteignton, DevonHackney Lane Kingsteignton Devon England TQ12 3QH
Accommodation
Description:
From: £58.00 Built next to a 17th century Inn on the banks of the Teign estuary, the hotel offers a (modern) comfortable atmosphere whether your stay is for business or pleasure. There has been a hostelry on the site since Roman times. It was the site of a tidal ford and travellers would arrive and wait to cross the river The hostelry became known as the passage way across the river now the Passage House. In later years a granite railway was built to link the quarries on Dartmoor with the Stover Canal shipping granite which was used on many of Londons famous buildings. Also china clay was mined locally and shipped out via the Hackney Canal The river was a hive of activity with the Lightermen and Barges working the estuary and canals. The ruins of their cottages are still to be seen on the banks of the river along from the Inn.We are perfectly situated as a base to explore the delights of Devon, from the towering red sandstone cliffs and sheltered sandy coves with beautiful bays along the coastline to the contrast of the wild and rugged terrain of Dartmoor The hotel offers a very attractive and relaxing leisure suite with a Steam Room, Sauna and well appointed Gym. Our Beauty Salon offers a range of treatments, massage and aromatherapy. For coffee and that informal meet, the Vue terrace and conservatory offers stunning views of the estuary Our Lightermans Restaurant offers table dhote and a la carte menus, making the best use of local produce. For a more informal dining experience (or as an alternative) you can dine at the Inn which offers an excellent Carvery and an extensive menu from a sandwich to succulent steaks and fish.
