Bridport Heritage Snapshot
In Bridport in the time of King Edward there were 120 houses and they were assessed for every service of the king and paid geld for 5 hides, that is, half a silver mark for the use of the king's housecarls excepting the customs which belonged to the farm of 1 night. There was 1 moneyer paying to the king 1 silver mark and 20s when the coinage was changed. Now there are 100 houses and 20 are so impoverished that those who dwell in them are not able to pay geld.
