This area has recently been designated an area of outstanding natural beauty. Within easy reach are reminders of the areas industrial heritage at Kilhope Lead Mine and Beamish Museum; reminders of religious heritage at the local chapel; where John Wesley preached; and at nearby Durham Cathedral and natural heritage at Burnhope Moor and the Pennine Way.
