Nestling quietly in the Cotswold hills, surrounded by some of Gloucestershire's most outstanding countryside is the historic wool town of Painswick. Built of mellow Cotswold stone from the local quarry on Painswick Beacon the town's many beautiful buildings can be seen as you wander around it's quaint and narrow streets. There is a variety of small shops and galleries to browse around with pubs and restaurants. The Slad Valley, made famous by Laurie Lee in his book 'Cider with Rosie' is also noted for its wild flowers as is Scotsquar Common at Edge. Edge, Slad and Sheepscombe are all villages within walking distance of Painswick and well worth a visit. The celebrated Rococo Gardens at Painswick House are open to the public throughout most of the year. In late Winter and early spring the carpets of snowdrops are truly breathtaking. Cardynham House is a 15th-16th Century Grade 2* listed house. There is wealth of character to be found in every room each one decorated in a style of its own. The House itself has a residents lounge with open fireplace and adjacent to this a conservatory with comfortable chairs overlooking a small internal courtyard.
