Accommodation
Description:
From: £70.00 The Portcullis Hotel has been extensively refurbished throughout 2010 and is situated in the 12th century Cotswold market town of Chipping Sodbury. Throughout the renovation period we have made sure to keep a modern yet traditional feel to the building, there is an open log fire which you will find burning throughout the cold winter months and many old pictures and other historical information hanging throughout the building. The Portcullis has a lively bar that stays open till 2am Thurs to Saturday We are also a stone’s throw away from historical villages of Old Sodbury and Little Sodbury which both offer plenty to see. We are also within easy access to the world class 3 day Badminton horse trials held every spring, Castle Coombe race track and Westonbirt Arboretum There is easy access to both the M4 and M5 motorways and we are only 12 miles from the city centre of Bristol and Bath. Chipping Sodbury lies at the foot of the southern Cotswold escarpment below Dodington Park in southern Gloucestershire 8 miles north-west of Bristol. As the Chipping in its name implies, it was once an important market centre in medieval times and stands at the crossroads on the main route between Bristol, Oxford and London Chipping Sodbury is very similar to Chipping Norton in that it has a long market square, or Chepynge, as it was called in the medieval times and hence 'Chipping'. Known as Broad Street, this is bordered with a wonderful assortment of houses from every period, but largely 17th-century Cotswold stone buildings or Georgian of mellow brick. Most of these are now occupied by bright and cheerful shops which still retain a lively country atmosphere Accommodation Rating:
