The Collection: Art and Archaeology in LincolnshireA new museum dedicated to the art and archaeology of Lincolnshire. Among the exhibits on display are a canoe dating back to at least 500 BCE, and many Roman finds from early Lincoln. As of this writing, the museum is free to enjoy. Exhibits are arranged so that visitors can follow a chronological timeline, or jump to any time period from Lincolnshire's past that interests them. There are a wide variety of regular exhibits plus a series of traveling exhibitions from major museums like the British Museum. The Collection is terrific for children; our two children, ages 7 and 13, enjoyed themselves enormously. There are numerous hands-on displays, and audio-visual/interactive exhibits aimed at giving children a better sense of the various time periods in Lincolnshire's history. Children (or adults!) can dress up as Romans, or create a mythical medieval beast, or view a scale model of a Roman legion marching out of Lincoln. The Collection is a few steps away from the Usher Gallery, Lincoln's foremost art gallery, and is located a very short walk away from Lincoln Castle and Cathedral.
