Holmhead Guest House, Greenhead

Accommodation Description:
Two-hundred year old ex-farmhouse built with Hadrian’s Wall stone on the border of Northumberland and Cumbria. Situated in quiet rural location on Hadrian’s Wall Path and Pennine Way, near to the most spectacular parts of the wall, by a beautiful river and next to the ruins of 14th century Thirlwall Castle. All bedrooms en-suite and have stunning views of the North Pennines or the castle

Ideal location for exploring the best parts of Hadrian's Wall.

Our hearty breakfasts use local produce wherever possible, Cumberland or Northumberland Sausage, locally-produced bacon and free-range eggs. For evening meals, there is an excellent local pub, a pleasant half-mile walk away along a quiet footpath. Tea and coffee-making facilities are available in rooms and guests can use the large guest sitting room to relax, watch TV, read or play board games

There is ample free parking. Holmhead is built of stone from Hadrian's Wall and sits right over its foundations. In fact, we boast a genuine piece of carved Roman graffiti in the walls of the house

Because of its location on the Wall Path and Pennine Way, Holmhead is very popular with walkers and cyclists and we welcome both, either to enjoy B&B, stay in the self- catering cottage, or use our Camping Barn - which sleeps up to 8 people. There is a drying room. Please note, Holmhead is strictly a No-smoking area and, unfortunately, because of our rural situation and the proximity of livestock in nearby fields, we do not accept pets

Our nearest village, Greenhead (a half-mile away), is just off the main A69 Newcastle-Carlisle road and so is ideally placed as a central location to explore the wilds of the Northumberland National Park, The North Pennines (described as England's last wilderness), the Lake District and, of course, the famous Northumberland coastline. Historic Carlisle and lively Newcastle are easily accessible by car or train
