Compton House, Axbridge

Accommodation Description:
Compton House is a charming Grade 2 Listed Georgian House located at the edge of historic Axbridge with great views across the Somerset Levels. Perfect for overnight accommodation, holiday breaks, private functions and house parties. Licensed for Weddings and all Civil Ceremonies

Robert and Patricia welcome you to stay as house guests in their charming Georgian country house, situated at the foot of the Mendips, with captivating views across the Somerset Levels and within walking distance of medieval Axbridge. This Grade 2 listed house, parts of which date back to medieval times, offers you the informal elegance of a historic Somerset manor house with the comfort, homely atmosphere and friendly hospitality that keeps guests coming back. Compton House was originally the family home of playwright Christopher Fry's great, great grandparents and the house remains much as it was in the seventeenth century with its mullioned windows, flag stones and original fireplaces

You can stay in one of the well appointed five bedrooms, each with its own unique character; enjoy a relaxing, sunny Drawing Room, dine in an elegant Dining Room and catch the sun on a south facing terrace overlooking extensive lawns. Compton House has private dining facilities and Patricia, who cooks privately for you, bases her menus on seasonal, locally sourced West Country and Fair Trade produce flavoured with her garden herbs and Robert enjoys tempting you with an array of fine wines, local ciders and beers. The shops, Pharmacy, Churches, Hairdressers and the local pubs and restaurant are all within a short walk of the house and there is also a Community Cinema - Roxy

Compton House is available for house parties, business events, wedding ceremonies, private receptions and parties as well as for private guests and is the perfect place to stay to explore Somerset and the West Country.
