The Keep. The original Norman forebuilding here
was altered in Tudor times to create a loggia, or gallery leading
to the pleasure gardens below the Keep.

The Keep and Leicester's Building
This wall of The Keep was destroyed by Parliamentary
troops in the English Civil War. Now you can look down onto the
Tudor Gardens.
Detail of the defenses of The Keep. The builders
spread the foundation out away from the walls, hoping to deter
any attackers from undermining the walls. Also, attackers would
find it impossible to place ladders close enough to the walls,
due to the sloping foundations.
