It is named after the Duke of Somerset who was a great landowner in the area. In 2004 the village of Semington was bypassed and for perhaps the first time in its history the road was still.

This obviously had a dramatic effect on the role of The Somerset Arms now not attracting the traveler things had to change. In the summer of 2009 following a period of closure The Somerset Arms opened its doors again ready to offer a new service to its local customers.
