Corfe Castle photo, Corfe Castle

Corfe Castle is both the name of this fabulous ruin and the attractive Dorset village within which it stands. The history of Corfe Castle goes back into the Saxon period, when Edward the Martyr was murdered here by his step-mother. The bulk of the castle we see today is much later, primarily 13th-14th century.
