Finlarig Castle

 photo, Finlarig Castle

Finlarig is a ruinous early 17th century tower house built by 'Black' Duncan Campbell to an L plan. The castle stands in woodlands just north of Killin, on the edge of the Trossachs. At the rear of the castle are the crumbling ruins of a family mausoleum. The most intriguing feature (one might say 'chilling') is a pit by the north wall, said to be the place where Campbell enemies were executed while the laird and his family watched from a tower window.
