Carew Castle photo, Carew Castle

There has been a fortification at Carew since the Iron Age, but the present castle is largely a 13th century building erected by Sir Nicholas de Carew, which much later rebuilding in Tudor style by Sir Rhys ap Thomas. Just outside the castle is Carew Cross, a wonderfully well preserved Celtic cross dating to the 11th century.
