Shoot London Treasure MapPosted: 2009-06-16
Something quite intriguing came through the post today. Its the Shoot London Treasure Map, a new way to enjoy London, merging my two favourite activities of exploring Britain's history and taking photographs.
The Shoot London Treasure Map is a unique way to enjoy London by fusing photography with heritage. The treasure map comes in a weatherproof neck pouch that has a nifty built-in compass. Within the pouch is a simple London map, and a series of 7 clues to historic locations around London.
Some of the locations are well-known icons on the London tourist scene, while others are better known only to locals. Your job is to follow the clues to find the seven locations, and take your creative photos of them.
You can then upload your pictures to the Shoot Experience website. Photos will be judged at the end of the year, and prizes awarded for the most creative photos.
Users have the chance to see their photography exhibited in a London gallery, in a special exhibition of commended photos set for early 2010.
Where can you get a Shoot London Treasure Map?
Shoot London Treasure Maps are available from BFI Filmstore, the Design Museum and many other shops in the South Bank area, for £9.95.
Shoot Experience produces a wide variety of public photography events, competitions, workshops and corporate events. Some upcoming events include Capture Camden on Saturday June 27th, Shoot Shoreditch on Saturday 18th July, a Documentary Photography workshop on Saturday 13th and 27th June and a Street Photography and Camera Handling workshop on Saturday 18th and 25th July.
The Shoot London Treasure Map is a pretty nifty idea, and looks like a great family activity. You don't have to be an experienced photographer; the idea is just to get out and enjoy exploriing London and have some fun taking pictures.
