This wonderful piece of 12th century architecture was crafted to help supply water to the cathedral, a job it still performs. The tower is supported on a series of Romanesque arches that form a sort of interlaced web. It is wonderful that something so practical as a simple water tower can be made so attractively artistic (modern architects take note).
