Mallerstang Dale Photo, Pendragon Castle

The castle was supposed to have built by Uther Pendragon, legendary father of King Arthur. Unfortunately for Arthurian legend, there is no proof of any structure here before the Normans built the first castle in the 12th century. That castle was later strengthened by the Clifford family, but following the death of Lady Anne Clifford the castle fell into ruin.
