The striking red and white striped lighthouse on Longstone Rock is visible from a long ways away. The small cottage beside the lighthouse was home to Grace Darling, daughter of the lighthouse keeper in 11838. Darling became a national heroine for her role in rescuing sailors from the steamer Forfarshire, which ran aground near Longstone Rock during a fierce storm.
