From the lower parking lot there is a beautiful uphill walk wooded walk along a stream (requires good physical condition and can be slippery in wet weather). From the lower parking lot to the limited parking at the top of the castle, the road is narrow and winding. Oldest part is 15th century tower, alterations and extensions in the 16th and 17th century. Views from the castle over the countryside.

Castle Sween
|
|
|
Ruins of a late 12th century castle built by Suibhne (pronounced "Sween"). The castle changed hands multiple times over the medieval period, passing in turn from the MacSweens to the MacDonalds, to the MacNeills, and the MacMillans. The MacDonalds recaptured Sween in 1647 and slighted the castle, making it uninhabitable.
