08/05/2002 Entry: "Elgar Steam Train Excursion"

Elgar Steam Train Excursion
Steam trains are once again a stylish way to reach Oxford or Worcester, the home of Royal Worcester porcelain and composer Edward Elgar's birthplace. The "Elgar Explorer" express will leave London on Aug. 24, Sept. 21 and Nov. 30 (for Worcester's Christmas market) as part of this year's Past Time Rail's excursion programme.

Leaving London Paddington in the morning with the steam locomotive at the head of the train, the Elgar Express speeds along the main line calling at Reading. It is hoped that the loco will be allowed to run at her top speed of 75mph during the run from Paddington to Didcot – signals allowing! From Didcot it takes the route through Oxford. Once through Oxford it takes the single track Cotswold Line through Moreton in Marsh.before arriving in the City of Worcester.
