Solway Coast Discovery Centre A new Discovery Centre in Silloth, Cumbria, allows visitors the chance to explore the unique geography of the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Visitors can see how the Romans, Vikings and medieval monks developed the area, and explore the diverse natural habitat of this beautiful region.

The Solway Coast was designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1964 on the recommendation of the Countryside Commission The designated area stretches from Rockcliffe, east of Carlisle to the sea brows north of Maryport, covering an area of about 115sq km.
The area is internationally important for bird life, has a wealth of archaeological sites and historic features and has a diversity of plant and animal habitats. |
