Prince of Wales is New President of the National Trust
The National Trust has announced that His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is to become the Trust's new President. The Prince of Wales takes up this role in succession to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, who served as the charity's President from 1953 until her death last year.
The Prince has also agreed to act as President of the National Trust for Scotland, which should assist in forming a closer relationship between the two heritage organisations.
The National Trust and National Trust for Scotland are the leading charities involved in protecting and promoting the UK's natural and cultural heritage.
The National Trust's Chairman, Charles Nunneley, commented, "We are delighted that His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales has agreed to become President of the Trust. Since 1995, as Vice President, he has shown great interest in all aspects of our conservation work. As President we look forward to him continuing to play an invaluable role in the Trust's work, particularly as he shares our commitment to the nation's heritage, farming and rural issues."
