12/04/2003 Entry: "Tower Bridge Engineering Tours"

London's Tower Bridge takes visitors behind the scenes
Tower Bridge Exhibition will be offering the unique opportunity to take a trip behind the scenes and discover the workings of one of the most famous engineering feats in the World. From 12 until 23 January, Monday to Friday, Tower Bridge engineering tours will take place every evening.

Visitors will be taken on their tour by one of the Tower Bridge Engineers. As well as visiting the
Tower Bridge Exhibition they will be given the opportunity to visit the areas of the bridge that the general public do not normally see.

The tours will take place every evening, starting at 17:15pm and 17.45pm and will last approximately one-and-a-half hours. Tours will start at the exhibition ticket office, located on the North West side of the Bridge.

Visitors will be taken to visit the Bascule Chambers and modern Engine Rooms located underneath the Bridge.

The tour will end with a visit to the Victorian Engine Rooms, which hold the original size hydraulic engines that powered the bridge until 27 years ago. Guests will also have the opportunity to look around the Engine Rooms, which explains in detail the original workings of the Bridge.

Places are limited as each tour holds only twelve people, so booking in advance is essential. The cost for these tours is £15.00 per person.

Bookings can be made by calling 020 7940 3961.
