National Garden Scheme openings for March
Spring is coming! And that means that a wide variety of gardens open for charity under the National Garden Scheme are showcasing Spring bulbs and other seasonal delights. Special openings include Corsham Court, near Chippenham, Wiltshire, where the park and gardens were laid out by 'Capability' Brown and Humphrey Repton, and offer many ornamental trees and spring bulbs. But in addition to grand estate gardens, there are also a delightful variety of small, private gardens open in March.

Prince of Wales is New President of the National Trust
The National Trust has announced that His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is to become the Trust's new President. The Prince of Wales takes up this role in succession to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, who served as the charity's President from 1953 until her death last year.

John Lennon's Childhood Home in Liverpool Opens to the Public
John Lennon's childhood Liverpool home - Mendips - opens to the public for the first time on Saturday 29 March 2003. Visitors will be able to enjoy a joint tour of Mendips and the former Liverpool family home of Sir Paul and his brother Michael McCartney, 20, Forthlin Road.

Berwick Celebrates Anniversary of England-Scotland Union
The 400th anniversary of the union of the crowns of England and Scotland will be celebrated this year with a series of events in and around the historic walled border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. When Elizabeth I died in 1603, the English crown passed to her nearest relative, James VI of Scotland, which led to the end of three centuries of border warfare in which Berwick changed hands several times.

Solway Coast Discovery Centre
A new Discovery Centre in Silloth, Cumbria, allows visitors the chance to explore the unique geography of the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Visitors can see how the Romans, Vikings and medieval monks developed the area, and explore the diverse natural habitat of this beautiful region.

National Gardens Scheme February openings
The National Gardens Scheme has announced details of gardens that can be visited during the month of February. These include private gardens which are normally closed to visitors.

London Attraction News
Three galleries and two museums highlight news of places to visit in London this Spring. Among the attractions making the news are the Saatchi Gallery, the Fashion and Textile Museum, the Hayward Gallery, the Horniman Museum, the Whitechapel Art Gallery, and Somerset House, where exclusive private group tours are now available.

Jorvik Viking Festival
Vikings invade York next week for the annual Jorvik Viking Festival, which runs from 14 Feb - 23 Feb. This week long Festival reflects the traditional Viking celebration of the coming of Spring, 'Jolablot'. There is always a varied programme of events for all the family, including re-enactments of landmarks in Viking history, saga telling and traditional craft demonstrations.

Orchid Festival, Kew Gardens
From 15 Feb - 16 March The Princess of Wales Conservatory at Kew Gardens (Greater London region) will be transformed into a tropical habitat for the ninth annual Orchid Festival. There will be waterfalls, streams and rocky shelves along with half a million flowers of different colours, shapes and sizes.
