Mosaic workshop at Legionary Museum in Caerleon
The Roman Legionary Museum in Caerleon offers children a chance to get a taste of Roman life by dressing up in armour and costumes. From the 21 - 25 October, children will also be able to design their own mosaics in one-hour workshops offered throughout the day.

London Christmas Shopping Highlights
Its not too early to think ahead to Christmas in London! Details of several popular events have been released already. The luxury emporium, Fortnum & Mason is providing a ‘sumptuous selection of treats to eat’ for Christmas. On offer will be a Christmas cheese board of Fortnum’s finest cheeses, gentlemen’s relish in pewter pots and authentic farmhouse-made hams. There will also be a selection of presents for ‘someone who has everything’ – including a dinosaur egg, a mammoth bone necklace and a Mesopotamian arrow head.

Handel House Museum
To celebrate its first anniversary the Handel House Museum in London is hosting a series of events throughout November. These include an exclusive day at Chapel Royal and a masterclass with founder and director of The Academy of Ancient Music Christopher Hogwood. In addition to special events there will be more weekly events, family activities and study events.

New London Guides
Four new guides have been published covering London attractions. Walks: The London Borough of Tower Hamlets have produced two of the guides. ‘Walks in Wapping and Limehouse’ and ‘Walks in the Isle of Dogs’ take in walks past many historic buildings and landmarks in this corner of East London. These free leaflets can be obtained from local libraries, council buildings and tourist information centres. London TICs

Channel Island is Wildlife Haven
Alderney, the most northerly of the Channel Islands, is promoting itself as a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. The newly formed Alderney Wildlife Trust has produced a series of free leaflets describing an all-year programme of walks on the 3½ mile-long by 1½ mile wide island -- it is the first Channel Island to join the Wildlife Trust partnership.

New Scottish Highland Gardens
Horticulture meets the performing arts in an unusual new garden taking shape in the Scottish Highlands. Six acres of overgrown woodland next to the celebrated Pitlochry Festival Theatre are being transformed into a series of spaces dedicated to the arts – including an amphitheatre overlooking the River Tummel.

Guide to London Statues
From Peter Pan to William Shakespeare; from Sherlock Holmes to Sir Winston Churchill: London is filled with more than 600 statues and monuments. They are described and many are illustrated in a newly revised book, “Discovering London Statues and Monuments”

Darwin Centre Opens in London
Visitors to London's Natural History Museum will, for the first time, have behind-the-scenes access to the museum's vast collections when the first phase of the Darwin Centre opens on September 30.

Discount Entry to Yorkshire Attractions
Also from the Yorkshire Tourist Board comes the Powerpass scheme. For the price of only £1, you can purchase a Powerpass card, allowing 2 for the price of 1 entry into a large list of Yorkshire attractions (lowest priced admission goes free). The card is valid until 31 December 2002 and can be used as often as you wish. All of the proceeds are donated to the children's charity Childline.

Freud Blue Plaques unveiled at Museum
Blue plaques commemorating its former residents Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) and his daughter Anna (1895-1982) have been unveiled at 20 Maresfield Gardens, Hampstead - the North London house which is now the Freud Museum.

September Events in Southern Wales
The British summer may well be drawing to a close - but don't despair there's still plenty of reason to get out and about in South East Wales this September. Among the events planned are:

Museum of Welsh Life in Cardiff.
Visitors are being given the chance to plough their seeds and scatter at the Harvest gathering event at the Museum of Welsh Life in St Fagans from 21-22 September. The open-air museum will be holding harvest craft demonstrations and exhibitions for all the family. Telephone:02920573500

Welsh Attractions Offer Special Rates
Several top attractions in South Eastern Wales are offering special rates to visitors this autumn. Included in the attractions offering specials are Rhondda Heritage Park, Techniquest, The Pit Pony Sanctuary, and Chepstow Museum.

2002 Regent Street Festival
Crowds of up to 150,000 people are expected to join this year's Regent Steet Festival, in aid of the BBC Children in Need. The Festival, now in its third year, will be opened on Sunday 15th September at 12 noon by Vinnie Jones, footballer turned actor, together with Gaby Roslin.

New Wine Trail Guide for the Heart of England
Heart of England Fine Foods and Heart of England Tourist Board have collaborated to produce a new brochure outling vineyards to visit in Herefordshire and Worcestershire. ‘The Wine Trail’ lists a number of vineyards at Astley, Frome Valley, Bodenham, Coddington, Halfpenny Green, Tiltridge, Lulham Court and Wroxetter.

Hampton Court Piping Competition
On November 2, the Carlton Mitre Hotel, across the River Thames from Hampton Court Palace in Greater London, will host one of the most prestigeous piping competitions in the world. The Scottish Piping Society of London is holding its 63rd annual piping competition, the "Bratach Gorm".
