ruins of medieval castles. In other cases the house has been built

Restored formal 18th century gardens surrounding a country house. A large walled garden has been planted with authentic varities of fruit trees and shrubs, and there is a long canal garden. Later additions are the Victorian flower garden, parterre, and walks. The national ivy collection is housed here, as well as a large collection of narcissus. Parties may arrange a private tour led by the head gardener. Best viewed in: Spring.

Judge's Lodging

A mid-Victorian house that served - as its name suggests - as lodging for a Judge, in this case The Reverend Richard Lister Venables. See the restored Servant's Hall, Withdrawing Room, Parlour, and the original Courtroom, whjere a soundscape recreates an 1857 trial for duck-stealing! In addition, special exhibits trace the history of Radnorshire and the town of Presteigne.
