Prehistoric Sites

Cerrig Duon (Maen Mawr)
Brecks, Powys. OS Map Reference SN852206
An oval ring of low stones. Thirty feet from the ring is a striking setting of a tall (7 foot high) stone and two smaller stones in a line. See map

Four Stones
Walton, near Presteigne, Powys. OS Map Reference SO245607
As the name suggests, this is a group of four standing stones, of 5-6 feet in height. The SW stone has markings which may be cupmarks. See map

Harold's Stone Row
Trelleck, Powys. OS Map Reference SO499051
Three large stones stand aligned in a field. The stones are said to represent a vicory in battle of King Harold, though a prehistoric origin is more likely. See map

Nant Tarw
Brecks, Powys. OS Map Reference SN820258
Two circles can be seen here, each composed of small stones. There are several larger fallen stones near the circles, plus a separate 3 stone grouping near the largest circle. See map

Pedwar Maen
New Radnor, Powys. OS Map Reference SO156568
Four low stones seem to lead straight to a tumulus (burial mound). See map

Pen Y Beacon
Hay-on-Wye, Powys. OS Map Reference SO239373
Four stones are all that remain here. One standing stone hovers over two that lie level with the ground, while another protrudes slightly above the surface.
See map

Rhos Y Beddau
Llangynog, Powys. OS Map Reference SJ057301
A bog has swallowed up the stones of the circle here, but a long (162 feet) avenue leading to the circle is visible.
See map

Trecastle Mountain (Y Pigwyn)
Brecks, Powys. OS Map Reference SN833310
One of the many prehistoric remains surrounding Brecks. There are two circles of small stones here, the larger measuring 74 feet in diameter. A small mound in the centre of the larger ring may indicate a burial. See map
