About Accommodation Ratings

Accommodation ratings in the UK have undergone a recent change. Some of the designated ratings may be unfamiliar to you, so we thought we'd lay out the current VisitBritain/AA Rating scheme for you here.

4*	Hotel
*4G**	Guest Accommodation
*4A**	Serviced Apartments
*4h**	Hostel
*4C**	Campus
B	Budget

Notice that some designations have a letter following the Star rating. The letter designations indicate:

G- Guest Accommodation (for example Bed and Breakfasts, Guest Houses, Farm Houses, Inns)
A - indicates serviced apartments
C - indicates campus accommodation. Accommodation is usually en suite, and generally available only during term breaks in the school calendar.
H - indicates a Hostel, usually offered on either self catering or B&B basis
B - indicates budget hotel. These hotels are not star rated. These are normally chain hotels, offering en suite accommodation and a consistent, clean level of facilities, with 24 hour reservations.
NC - indicates non-classified

Hotel Categories
Hotels are further broken down into the following categories

Hotel	Likely to have more than 20 rooms.
Small Hotel	Likely to have more than 6 rooms and a maximum of 20 and are likely to be more personally run.
Country House Hotel	Have ample grounds or gardens, in a rural or semi-rural location, with emphasis on peace and quiet.
Town House Hotel	In city/town centre locations offering high quality with a distinctive style. High ratio of staff to guests.
Metro Hotels	Are found in city/town centres, offering full hotel services, but no dinner. They will be within easy walking distance of a range of places to eat.
