The Memorial plaque at the base of the tower, recalling the massacre of Jews in 1190 Interestingly, the plaque tells a sanitized version of the terrible event, repeating the more palatable fiction that the Jews killed themselves rather than fall into the hands of the mob outside. A more probable version of the event is that the Jews were promised that they would be unharmed if they came out of the castle. Believing the offer, they emerged, whereupon they were seized by the mob and killed.
