Situated within easy reach of picturesque attractions, such as Robin Hood’s Bay and Scarborough, this cottage can accommodate groups of family or friends of up to five people in comfort.

This property is part of a terrace of traditional Yorkshire houses, built from red brick and sitting on the banks of the River Esk. Two bedrooms offer enough accommodation to sleep up to five people and the living area is arranged in an open-plan fashion. There is plenty of space downstairs, with a spacious dining room, sitting room and a well-equipped kitchen.

French windows open onto a private patio and there is also a balcony on the first floor, offering stunning views of the Esk. Visitors have access to a shared lawned garden and, in the colder months, the cottage warmed by central-heating throughout. A wonderful property at any time of year.

Lovely cottage with amazing views
My husband and I have just returned from a week-long stay in Maplebeck Cottage after booking through Sykes Cottages. We arrived to find cookies and wine on the dining table and a light, bright and airy cottage. The cottage was clean and spacious and had great views over the River Esk. Guests are supplied with everything they need - fully equipped kitchen, living area with TV, comfortable beds with bedding, bathroom with towels and bits & bobs for cleaning. However, there were minor issues (didn't affect our break) which we did report to Sykes - fridge door wouldn't close, dripping tap and faulty lights in the downstairs loo. The cottage itself is in a great location with easy access to Whitby, the Moors and surrounding areas. You can walk to Whitby in around 30 minutes along the cinder track (or across a sports field onto a pavement if wet). Taxis are £6 each way. We also walked to Robin Hood's Bay which took 1.5-2 hours along the cinder track (decided to get the bus back for ?4 each). On a coiple of days we took the car to the Moors, Staithes, Saltburn and Guisborough (all within 30-40mins). We didnt do this but you can also get the NYMR steam train from Whitby to Pickering or a Northern Train along the line to Middlesborough for around ?7 return. Whitby is a great place during the day and night with plenty of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Would definitely consider visiting again - thanks :-)

Amazing location
I went to Maplebeck cottage for a "girly" weekend. The location was perfect, plenty of parking, which is a major problem in the centre of Whitby. We overlooked the river and watched the seals and wildlife pass by. We took a taxi into town and back which was ideal. Very cheap too. The cottage is extremely comfortable and excellent quality, not really like a holiday let at all! It actually felt like home from home, my one criticism is...... I didn't stay long enough!!! I highly recommend staying here rather than in the centre. It is so peaceful and picturesque, a heavenly stay.

Superb Cottage, in a lovely peaceful location. We have been twice now and will definitely be coming back.
Mr Riley

Very quiet and scenic with the wildlife on the river and the steam railway just across the river.
Mr Evans

Maplebeck was in a wonderful setting; peaceful and very near to Whitby and the Yorkshire Moors.
